Hello, Book Coven!
Can you believe we’re already midway through March? That means we’re just three weeks away from our first coven meeting of the year to discuss our current read, Inflamed.
What a fantastic and eye-opening book. I find myself nodding constantly, and I don’t think I’ve ever annotated a book this much. It’s been incredibly illuminating and healing.
I also wanted to share something personal with you—I was recently hospitalized due to a massive flare-up from my autoimmune disease, Lupus. Reading Inflamed has put into perspective just how deeply chronic illness and inflammation weave into our lived experiences. This book has encouraged me to rest more and practice greater self-compassion, and I hope it’s offering you similar insights.
Coven Meeting Details + Discussion Prep
Our meeting is on April 3rd, and Dr. Rupa Marya will be joining us! However, she’ll be at the airport during our discussion, so I want to make sure we’re all prepared ahead of time.
Register
Our Book Coven meeting will be on Thursday, April 3rd, at 7 PM Eastern Time.
Register HERE.
Even if you can’t make the date, register. This way you can receive the replay.
If you need any support please reach me at support@iamjulietdiaz.com
For our meeting, we’ll be focusing on these three questions:
1. Which case studies or examples stood out most to you? Why?
2. What changes, if any, do you feel inspired to make in your own life after reading this book?
3. If you had the chance to ask the authors one question, what would it be?
Let’s Discuss Now
Today, or whenever you get the chance to read this, I’d love to hear from you:
The authors argue that health is political. Do you agree? Why or why not?
Drop your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to start the conversation before our meeting.
A Call to Action
I also want to remind you of our call to action. It only takes a couple of minutes but makes a real impact.
Dr. Rupa Marya, whose work and words have been a force for so many of us, is facing racist repression at UCSF for taking a principled stand against the normalization of genocide and racism in medicine. She’s currently on leave with pay but is being subjected to disciplinary proceedings—an attempt to weaponize Title VI against a woman of color who has spent 22 years speaking truth to power and taking the hits for it.
Clearly, her latest stance struck a nerve. If you believe in justice, in medicine that truly heals rather than upholds systems of harm, please take a moment to sign this letter of support. It was put together by the incredible medical students of SANAD—people who are actively building a path to liberation in medicine.
Let’s show up for Rupa the way she’s shown up for so many.

Lastly, thank you for being here. With so many book clubs out there, I truly appreciate your presence in this space. Your engagement, reflections, and support mean the world.
Looking forward to our discussion soon!
With love,
Juliet

Also, I’m sorry to hear about your flare up with Lupus. Chronic health issues are no joke. Sending hugs to you, fellow warrior.
Sent the letter demanding the reinstatement of Dr. Rupa Marya. Just started the book when I realized the Book Coven is back! I am excited to join in. I might not have the book completely read by April 3rd. But excited to join everyone on the bookish journey of resistance.
